Description
The object is part of a cycle of images of the Way of the Cross painted on commission in a provincial workshop. The painting is dated on the 19th century. The author or authors of the aforementioned cycle of paintings are unknown. Information about the founder and the commissioner of these works was not found, either. Such a cycle of paintings was obviously intended for exposition in a church and the sacred function. No information about the origin of the preserved paintings was found. The aim of conservation works was to stop the further destruction and degradation of the object. The scope of work included the removal of painting deformations, the consolidation of all structural layers, local repairs of the warp, the cleaning of the face and the reverse side, the supplementation of missing parts of the paint layer and mortar, imitative retouch and the protection of the face with a layer of final varnish. Because of construction faults, the work program also included the replacement of the loom. The exposition and aesthetic value of the painting were restored.
