The centre is what attracts us, helps us survive and gives meaning. Sometimes it's definition is not obvious or unequivocal. Sometimes we oscillate between the diversity that may attract us like a labyrinth and change the direction of our route. This audio work is a sort of an impression journey through real and metaphoric dimensions inspired by Schulz’s journey through the city-labyrinth filled with an abundance of experiences, the atmosphere of strangeness of the Street of Crocodiles and Homer’s Odyssey of difficulties encountered by the hero determined to return to his centre.
The boy from ‘The Cinnamon Shops’ absorbs experiences with bated breath, plunges into the whirl of events and roams the city down to its borders; Odysseus travels through lands and oceans, escapes, fights, o v e r c o m e s. Both reach their destination in a different way; each of them has a path carved in his unique experience.
In my work, I used my own recordings, a library of sounds, electronic compositions created in the Ableton software and an excerpt from Giorgio Gaber’s song.
The work will be ultimately exhibited as a multichannel spatial audio installation surrounding the recipient.
