Prof. Tomasz Milanowski
Dean of the Faculty of Painting
The Faculty of Painting is a space for dialogue and free thought, experiment and artistic creation. This is where young art is thriving – in a place influenced by tradition, but responding lively to the contemporary. The place where exchange of thoughts, ideas and views comes natural, and discourse is the best form of education.
Can you teach sensitivity? It’s a difficult question. It can certainly be nurtured and studied, and we can build the foundations for its conscious and creative use. We can also build our sensitivity to art and find ways to build others’ sensitivity to it as well. This is the purpose of the diverse character of the studios where students try to define their own artistic approach through media such as painting, drawing, textiles, video, objects and spatial installations.
However, studying at the Faculty of Painting is above all an opportunity to creatively confront peers as well as young and experienced artists, because in the clash of views we see an opportunity to build new ideas and values.
